Love your updates! Enjoy reading the comments in your guestbook. You can tell you have a great location to visit when all i read is good things. From the 1950's to the present. I hope your Christmas and New Years went by without flawls. Keep doing your thing by making it fun and educational at the same time. Trying to keep my site going but the economy has things slowed a bit.
Take care God Bless America

Grew up on Big Sandy, I was there 1 week after school let out to a week before school started. Now I have two little girls I would love to show this great lake to. Looking for a resort up on the north west side, up by Olies. Can't seem to find it anywhere.

My family and grandfather always stayed at Knollwood in the 1950s and early 60s and I was devastated when the resort was sold. We loved cabins 7 and 8 - the big cabins by Indian Point. Try Hillcrest Resort - it's on the other side of the Bay. The Lodge at the old Kare Phree Pines has rentals.

I was looking at your 1949 era map of resorts and I saw mention of my grandparents resort, Knollwood on Big Sandy. What marvelous memories I have as a child spending time fishing, laughing, eating Shamrock hamburgers, trading post etc. I would like to rent a place for a long weekend in Oct. Any ideas? Thanks Joan Leary, Birmingham, AL

Hi Chris. I stayed next door with my family from about 1950 -1962. The name of the resort was Northern Lights. My grandmother owned it with her late husband Chester Deatz. They bought the property in 1923-28. I too remember the Shamrock Ballroom and the sheriff, Les Faden was around. I actually help sand the dance floor with the new owner, who owned a trash hauling service in Minneapolis.
